THE GM FOUR MAKES
“CAR-A-Day” Contest ELEVEN TOTAL!
Amidst the palm trees at the 2008 Buffalo Auto Show open Feb. 6 - Feb. 10 at the Buffalo/Niagara Convention Center, visitors will discover a chest full of potential “Pirates Gold” waiting to be won. The “Gold” is in the form of 11 new 2008-2009 vehicles from the best of world class manufacturers being offered in the Show’s “Chance to Win a Car-a-Day” contest. Make that a chance to win two or three brand new cars-a-day. General Motors has provided four of the prize vehicles for this unique contest. They are:
2008 Pontiac Solstice Convertible
As have many manufacturers in keeping the tropical theme of the show, GM proudly presents this year’s Pontiac Solstice Convertible. The sleek and seductive roadster continues offering two models with the turbocharged GXP model producing 260 horsepower and 260 lb.-ft. of torque – a 47-percent increase over the base model – making its engine the most powerful production version in the Ecotec family. The Solstice is a true sports cars with a near 50/50 weight distribution for balanced handling and feel. It features rear-wheel drive, four-wheel independent SLA suspensions and 18-inch aluminum alloy wheels. Drivers have a choice between a standard Aisin five-speed close-ratio manual transmission and an optional five-speed automatic.
2008 Chevrolet Malibu
Dream you’re on a beach in your all-new Malibu. The completely redesigned Malibu still has GM's front-wheel-drive Epsilon platform, but it now has a much longer wheelbase than all major competitors. And GM spent exceptional time and energy on the interior. Attractive are the new dual-pod dash, new two-tone color combinations, and higher-quality material inside. The new front end, with its two vertically stacked grille openings and dual round headlights per side, is the new face of Chevrolet cars. The Malibu redo also has a new 252-hp double-overhead-cam 3.6-liter V6 engine. GM likewise threw out the four-speed automatic and bolted a six-speed auto, with optional steering-wheel-mounted shifting, in its place.
2008 Buick Enclave
Most test-drive reviewers agree the Enclave is the best-looking Buick to hit the bricks in years. The craftsmanship that made the Enclave concept popular is carried over to the production model. Looks are nice, but Enclave shines when you get behind the wheel. Taut handling doesn’t come at the expense of ride quality; the ride is smooth, and this cross-over responds well to steering input through the turns. It does not take long behind the wheel to realize the (last generation) Lexus RX was the Buick engineers’ target for interior noise levels. When cars blow past at highway speeds and only a whisper transmits to the cabin, you know they’ve done their job well.
2008 GM Sierra
The 2008 GMC Sierra 1500 is an excellent choice for a full-size pickup with its robust frame, comfortable interior, safety equipment and varied body styles and configurations. Redesigned recently, the Sierra boasts of an improved interior made from quality materials, a better steering and suspension components and a new look. The ‘08 Sierra 1500 is a half-ton full-size pickup available in three body styles - the standard cab, extended cab and crew cab. Standard and extended cabs can have optional length beds. The Sierra 1500 comes in different trim levels, and a variety of power options. Interior features of the Sierra provide superb comfort especially with its fine ergonomics and adequate storage. A satellite radio is now standard equipment in all trims too.
